BLACK TOKYO

My mother is your mother too.

Jason Gatewood This is the image I think about whenever people start talking about segregation and apartheid. When people like Ayako Sano spout nonsensical ideas like "aparthied is a good thing", from yesteryear. When I hear stupid polititians like Mississippi State Rep. Gene Alday say all the “Blacks in their districts have crazy welfare checks so I’m voting against funding the schools there”. And everytime someone blames “the other” for their own inadequacies, failures, and ineptitude.Commit this picture to memory, for nothing in this world is more valuable than milk to a baby. My mother is your mother too.I believe knowledge overcomes ignorance, so whenever someone says you aren’t good enough because of some condition you can't control like skin color, stature, birthright, etc… show them this and say “but we drank the same milk, so I’m the same as you.”My people gave our lifeforce to America and the world quite literally as evidenced by this picture. Plenty of blood, sweat, and tears were stolen and erstwhile forgotten based on what what I heard of our history told to me while I was growing up (because you know this wasn’t in the history books in school), so don’t you tell me we need to back down from honoring them this month. I should be broadcasting our accomplishments everytime I breathe. Also, Just because I live in another part of the world DOES NOT mean my skin color or ancestry has changed… If anything, I’m reminded of it more than ever of it over here.I’m a Proud Black Man till the day I leave this world.Happy Black History Month everyone. This article was originally posted on Jason L.
